Zvecan - In what is KFOR’s largest investment in Kosovo, a new road bridge costing 400.000 euros was inaugurated on the Bistrica river between Zvecan and Leposaviq on December 2.

The bridge, that replaced a Mabey-Johnson bridge very near to this location, was built in collaboration between Serbian and Albanian companies from Kosovo.

In the opening ceremony, attended by Authorities of Kosovo’s Institutions, international organizations as EULEX, UNMIK, OSCE and European Union, Mayors and local population, Major General Giovanni Fungo, the Commander of KFOR said in his speech:  \"this bridge was designed by a Kosovo Serb company and constructed by a Kosovo Albanian company in a highly professional cooperation” and then, he underlined: “the new bridge is a concrete example of mutually beneficial cooperation between NATO, the Istitutions and all communities”.

At the end, COMKFOR concluded: “Let us transform altogether this new bridge into an opportunity to further promote security, prosperity and development in Kosovo and for Kosovo”.

The bridge, funded by NATO nations, was constructed according to European standards and will provide better traffic and safety conditions for both vehicles and pedestrians.

The new bridge is functional to the improvement of the local economy as it will enhance a better transportation connectivity, an added value to the local economy. The attention to the event shows that KFOR is playing an important role in ensuring a Safe and Secure Environment and Freedom of Movement for all people in Kosovo.
