Kosovo and Montenegro conclude demarcation process


Vienna, 26 august - The Republic of Kosovo has concluded today the demarcation process with Montenegro after signing the Agreement on State Border in Vienna.

The Agreement was signed, on behalf of the Kosovo delegation, by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hashim Thaçi, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Skënder Hyseni, while, on behalf of the Montenegrin delegation, it was signed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Igor Luksić, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Raško Konjević.

Witnesses to the signing were the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, the President of the Republic of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria, Sebastian Kurz.

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, after signing the agreement, reiterated that the deal is “in conformity with the Constitution of 1974, President Ahtisaari’s document and the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo.”

This is an important day for Kosovo and Montenegro, but also for the entire region, which shows that the region has entered a period of cooperation and is confident to move towards the path of the Euro-Atlantic integration.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Igor Lukšić, said that the agreement is a model for the region and noted that it was signed on the eve of the Vienna Summit, as a confirmation that the region is committed to the process of integration into the EU and NATO.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thaçi emphasized that Kosovo has already concluded the process of demarcation of borders with Albania, Macedonia and now also with Montenegro, and expressed hope that soon demarcation will be concluded also with Serbia.
