Mitrovica, 14 August - Following a recent agreement between Minister for the Dialogue Edita Tahiri and Chief Negotiator Marko Djuric, the implementation of the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue agreement on the Mitrovica bridge will commence today, Sunday, 14 August 2016.

The construction work on the bridge will start this morning at 10:00 and will be carried out by accessing the construction site through the southern access road.

The revitalisation of the bridge, an investment worth over 1.2 million euro and funded by the European Union, will greatly contribute to facilitating contacts between the people of Mitrovica North, Mitrovica South and beyond.

With the start of implementation of this agreement, the Mitrovica Bridge will become a symbol of normalisation of relations between communities in Kosovo.

The Mitrovica Bridge is expected to open for pedestrians and for vehicles in both directions in line with the recommendations of the technical assessment and the architectural design both sides agreed in June 2015.

Together with both mayors, a working group will regularly monitor and review the prevailing political and security conditions in the municipalities during and after the revitalisation process. The Kosovo Police, the EULEX and the KFOR, in line with their respective mandates, will ensure a safe and secure environment.
