It pays off to invest in energy efficiency of your home

Pristina, 4 May - As part of Europe Day 2010 activities, the EC Liaison Office launched the Public Awareness Campaign on the importance and benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources with the series of TV, radio, and print advertisements. A journalist competition was launched last week as part of the energy efficiency project.

The EU-funded campaign, which is supporting the Ministry of Energy and Mining in awareness-raising, will help the general public understand how energy efficiency and renewable energy sources can make people live more comfortably and affordably, while also protecting the environment and reducing global warming.

Renzo Daviddi, the Head of the EC Liaison Office said: "Energy efficiency is the main concern in the European Union. All Member States have committed to reduce their CO2 emissions in a bid to reduce global warming, save the environment, and reduce energy dependency. We are supporting Kosovo to come closer to joining these endeavours."

In Kosovo, the construction activity is intensive. However, buildings are constructed with little or no consideration for their energy efficiency performance. With buildings accounting for 40% of the energy demand, the building sector is key in addressing the challenges of reducing energy consumption and cut down of the CO2 emissions.

The EC Liaison Office is also running two related projects: one on the establishment of the energy audit process to obtain information about the energy consumption profile of a building or an industry; and the second one dealing with implementation of energy efficiency measures in the public buildings sector.
